WASHINGTON (AP) — Prosecutors will continue presenting testimony Tuesday in the Chandra Levy murder trial a day after jurors heard opening statements in the case.

Ingmar Guandique, a native of El Salvador, is charged with murdering Levy in 2001. The Washington intern's disappearance made national headlines after she had what prosecutors described as an extramarital affair with then-California Rep. Gary Condit. Condit was once a suspect but police no longer believe he had anything to do with her death.

In opening statements Monday, prosecutors acknowledged that law enforcement bungled the initial investigation by focusing on Condit to the exclusion of anyone else. The defense says Guandique has been made a scapegoat for an investigation that produced no real results.
