CHICAGO (AP) -- House Speaker Michael Madigan says he plans to hold public hearings in Chicago and Springfield to make sure Illinoisans understand the capital bill pending in the House.
Madigan left early from a Wednesday morning meeting with Governor Rod Blagojevich, Senate President Emil Jones, House Minority Leader Tom Cross and Senator Christine Radogno at the Thompson Center.
Madigan says the meeting is going well, and he wants the public hearings to inform residents about the gambling expansion that's included in the bill the Senate approved.
The measure would create three new casinos and allow existing casinos to expand to pay for a roughly $13 billion state construction program.
