QUINCY, ILL. -- A Quincy woman was honored Wednesday for her work with Special Olympics. Members from the Special Olympics Illinois Area awarded Pat Steinkamp the volunteer of the year.

Dozens of supporters joined her at the West Wing in Quincy for a benefit to raise money for athletes.

"She's been working for many years with Special Olympics, actually started a local agency in Adams County for Special Olympics that services a little over 110-120 athletes," said Jill Reffett, the West Central Illinois Special Olympics Area Director.

"It's just dedication to help the athletes and putting in a lot of time. Because I volunteer and do this after I work 42 to 43 hours a week," said Pat Steinkamp.

Wednesday's benefit is expected to raise about $5,000 for athletes.

The next Special Olympics event is a district basketball tournament at ISU in January.
