Veterans of all branches and wars honored

QUINCY, ILL. -- Veterans from all branches and all wars were honored at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy Thursday, November 11th.

It was standing room only as people packed into Lippincott Hall for the annual Veterans Day program.

The Quincy Notre Dame High School Band performed music for each branch of the armed services.

As the band played each selection, veterans from that branch stood and received a round of applause.

"Speaking on behalf of all veterans, we're honored to be honored, as well as those that have served and passed away for our country," said Michael H. Curtis who was in the US Air Force for 6 years.  "Being a veteran makes us proud. I was drafted and being drafted you don't have a choice. When the government calls on you, you do what you're told to do, but the biggest thing is, like I said, for our freedom and all of our rights that we have today is the reason we all served and we're proud to have been there."

Before the program began this morning the Tri-State Lug Nuts presented a check for $6,300 to the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.

That money came from one of the group's many car shows.

The organization has donated more than $54,000 to the home during the past 11 years.
