HANNIBAL, MO. -- An early morning fire destroyed a home in Hannibal Sunday. The Hannibal Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire with visible flames in the bathroom of a home at 425 N. Section Street around 6 a.m.

Fire crews reported heavy smoke coming out of the eaves of the house. Teams were on scene for approximately 3 hours extinguishing hot spots throughout the attic area.

After a fire investigation was conducted, the fire was listed as accidental electrical fire that started in the attic. Three people were inside the home at the time of the fire and were awoken while sleeping by the sound of the fire and exited the residence safely and called 911. There were no injuries to occupants or fire crews. The occupants lost all their possessions in the fire and the American Red Cross was contacted.

The Hannibal Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Hannibal Police Department, Marion County Ambulance District, City of Hannibal Building Inspector, and Board of Public Works.
