SPRINGFIELD, ILL. (AP) -- A panel that will make recommendations on how Illinois implements the new national health care law is holding a public hearing in Springfield.

The Illinois Health Care Reform Implementation Council plans to focus Tuesday on Medicaid.

That's the government program that will expand under the new law to cover more people.

Gov. Pat Quinn formed the council in July. Its members include the chiefs of agencies overseeing public health, insurance, services to the elderly and the Illinois budget.

The council plans to submit its first report to Quinn by Dec. 31, followed by periodic reports on the implementation of its recommendations.

Tuesday's meeting will be held at the Howlett Building, starting at 3:30 p.m.
