HANNIBAL, MO. -- Three former co-workers in Hannibal are teaming up on a new adventure that could land them some national exposure.
They're starting a production company called Three Monkey Media, and they hope their first gig lands them a spot at Super Bowl XLV.
KHQA sat down with two of them to see how they plan to accomplish that goal.
It may seem violent...
It may seem shocking...
It may even seem a little inappropriate, but it's three chances for Three Monkey Media to land a commercial during the next Super Bowl. It's a contest sponsored by Doritos and Pepsi Max. Amateurs could create up to ten commercials for each product and upload them to www.crashthesuperbowl.com in hopes of getting their commercial to air during the Super Bowl. The guys at Three Monkey Media decided to upload three commercials, all of which were shot locally.
"We tried to put a little bit of thought into it. We had several ideas and when we started talking to friends, we got a lot of other ideas," says Michael Childs.
The three ideas are Pepsi Max Urinal, Quite a Catch, and Naughty Angels.
"Ironically, our Pepsi Max Urinal one, which I thought of in the bathroom stall in a very similar situation, we've gotten a lot of really good feedback. People like the potty humor," says Michael Lesley.
Hopes are the people at Doritos and Pepsi like that commercial and the others. Come January third, the thousands of videos that have been uploaded will be whittled down. You will get a chance to vote for them online should these three commercials make the cut. In the end, the top three make the Super Bowl.
"I think that we all kind of looked at it as a learning experience. We're all interested in filming and we want to start our own studio and doing commercials and documentaries and things," says Childs.
"Locally, people have really enjoyed what we've put together and are impressed that three guys can throw together something and make it look easy even though it's not. It's a lot harder than what people expect it to be," says Michael Lesley.
Both Lesley and Childs say their commercials appearing on the Super Bowl would be awesome, but the ultimate goal was to be happy and satisfied with what they created. And they are, and they hope getting hit will be a hit.
The contest is now closed to anymore videos, but you can check them out online.
