Possibly the largest emerald ever found
QUINCY, ILL. -- Possibly the largest emerald ever found has made its way to Quincy.
Dallas Peterson found the emerald in Columbia about a year ago.
It's since been cut and polished, but it is a 49 carat cushion cut emerald surrounded by 16 carats of diamonds.
Peterson was invited to Dame and Hurdle and Company in Quincy to showcase, not only that emerald, but his other emeralds as well.
He has been advised to keep the price of this stone and his identity a secret.
"It's literally a one of a kind piece. I haven't seen a nicer emerald this size. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist, it's just that I haven't seen it," said Pederson.
Peterson says some museums are interested in purchasing the stone, but could not specify which ones.
It went on display Friday, November 19th and will be at Dame and Hurdle and Company Saturday, November 20th as well
