MONKEY RUN, MO. -- Residents of Monkey Run are still without flood buyout money from the 2008 floods and many of them still had questions about grant money and appraisals.
That's a small community located south of Hannibal.
Property owners met with the Ralls County Commission to try and get some answers.
What started out as an argument , ended up with a solution.
Residents of Monkey Run have been without homes for 30 months now. They had questions about appraisals, and money from grants. The Social Services Grant originally had to be spent by the end of this year -- now there has been a year extension on that.
Other questions could not be answered tonight. Instead, property owners were asked to write down all concerns and questions that they had and send them into the Commissioner's office as soon as possible, which the residents agreed to.
"Mr. Robinette asked us to state a letter of grievances, and I hope they get addressed and we get the final answers to our questions and then we'll know for sure if we're going to sign for that buyout or not," said Monkey Run resident Betsy Kurz.
"They're going to write a letter to the county and we're going to get with Mr. Robinette and set up a meeting with him and go from there," said commissioner George Lane.
Monkey Run residents were told they had to either approve or dismiss the buyout plan by December 3rd. Now, if they would like an extension they should submit that in writing by the 3rd.
If you were unable to attend the meeting and have questions yourself, you are encouraged to send them to the Ralls County Commissioner.
