As people mourn the loss of state representative Rich Myers, republican county chairmen from the six counties he represented will meet soon to decide who will replace the long time representative.
According to the Illinois State Board of Elections, a replacement must be named within 30 days to fill out the remainder of the term that expires the middle of January.
Then either the same person or someone else selected by the republican party will serve the two year term that Myers was just elected to last month.
Illinois Senator Dick Durbin joins a long list of people who have eulogized Rich Myers.
Durbin says Myers was a valuable legislator and devoted to his constituents.
"What a nice fellow, very reliable. He knew farming inside and out. I was surprised when he said he was going to run for State House of Rep. I wished he'd been in my party he went to the other party but I never ever lost my respect for Rich and what he brought to public service," said Senator Durbin.
