Shots fired during high-speed chase in Burlington

A Burlington man is in cutody after he stole a vehicle and led officers on a high speed chase near Burlington, Iowa.

BURLINGTON, IOWA -- 24-year-old Christopher Brownlee stole a pickup truck from the Great River Medical Center around 4:00 p.m. Saturday.

Brownlee led police on a high-speed chase toward Pleasant Grove. There, Brownlee approached an intersection with a road block, at a high speed. A state trooper was forced to jump out of his path.  It was then that the trooper fired two shots at the vehicle. Brownlee continued down Pleasant Grove Road and eventually lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a ditch.

Brownlee was taken into custody, uninjured. Criminal charges are pending.

The West Burlington Police Department, Des Moines County Sheriff and the Iowa State Patrol assisted in the incident.
