Residents no longer have to go to drop off points
MONROE CITY, MO. -- Recycling in Monroe City is now as easy as checking your mail.
Monday, December 6th was the first day the Monroe City Sheltered Workshop offered citywide curbside recycling pickup to residents.
Two trucks and two trailers headed out at 7:30 AM to pick up recycling.
Residents used to have to take their recycling to a drop off point to get rid of it.
"We're working through Mark Twain Solid Waste, through the city of Monroe City and the city trash pick up, the gentleman's company that does that and there's Community Betterment, between all of us we've tried to coordinate this to make it convenient for the residents in town," said Monroe City Sheltered Workshop Manager Connie Thurman.
This curbside pick up comes at no cost to residents.
"There's trash bags provided, clear trash bags which we would like for them to use and sit them on the curb, not put them in the trash containers and only use the clear bags for recycling so the trash pick up will know and we will know what is recycling," said Thurman.
Pickups will be on Mondays and Thursdays, half the city on each day.
Manager Connie Thurman says right now it will take place every week, but that could change depending on the demand.
