QUINCY, ILL. -- Some Quincy Girl Scouts are helping warm up the community.

With chilly temperatures here to stay in the Tri-States, the scouts of Troop 5035 decided to conduct a scarf, hat and mitten drive for children in the Quincy area.

The girls got some help collecting items from their classes at Baldwin as wells as International Eyecare in Quincy.

Everything that was collected was sorted Wednesday, December 8th.

Troop 5035 leader Michelle Meyer said, "We collected 257 items this year. We have 15 girl scouts here at Baldwin. We did this collection drive 2 years ago at Monroe and collected 50 items. So the girls are really excited and wanted to do something here with their classrooms."

Why did you guys decide to collect these hats, mittens and scarves?

Samantha Fish said, "Because it's the right thing to do to help other people."

Did you have fun collecting?

Caroline Terford said, "Yeah, lots of fun."

The drive began November 18th.

Items will be distributed to local agencies including Quanada, Madonna House, Horizons and Early Childhood Center.
