QUINCY, ILL. -- The Quincy Park District's Board of Commissioners Wednesday night unanimously approved a tax levy that represents a 25.47 percent increase in revenue.

The aggregate tax levy of $2,216,600 will increase the Park District's revenue by $452,000 compared to the year prior.

The District has cited rising costs and decreasing revenues in the past few years. The reserve funds have been dwindling, and officials wanted to make sure those got replenished.

According to the levy ordinance, the proposed tax rate of .52826 is slightly less than the 2007 rate. Of the increase, a majority of that will cover the costs of pension, social security tax, unemployment tax and liability insurance costs.

The District is also cutting $210,099 in expenses. Some of those cuts include not filling the full-time marketing position and not rehiring three seasonal positions.

The Board will vote to approve the FY2011 budget at its January meeting.
