Keeping you safe on the roads

Illinois State Police and the Illinois Department of Transportation will work together this winter to keep you safe on the roads.

In this KHQA Safe Family Report, it's important to remember that snow plows will be on the road.

If you can't see the truck driver in the mirror of the truck, chances are they can't see you either.

It's important to increase your following distance between cars, especially snow plows.

IDOT snow plow trucks move slower and it does take a while to get the snow off the road.

Once it's gone, it will be better for everyone out there.

"Hopefully you can look at that IDOT truck as a savior to your travel instead of an obstruction out on the roadway because that's what they're there for, is to make the roadways better for us," said Illinois State Trooper Ed Howard.
