MACON, MO. -- The following is a News Release from Macon Police Department:
At approximately 2:54 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, an officer from the Macon Police Department, who was on routine patrol in the 300 block of West Bourke Street in Macon, Mo., observed a white male subject break a window at the Ice House convenience store. The white male subject fled the area southbound on foot and the Macon Police officer with a police canine, began pursuing.
The suspect continued southbound and was last seen as he jumped from a retaining wall onto railroad property. A short time later, a white male suspect was taken into custody by a Macon County Sheriff's deputy, just south of the railroad property. It was determined the individual was not the suspect pursued by the Macon Police officer, but was believed to be involved in the incident.
At approximately 3:11 a.m., as Macon Police officers continued to search the area, the white male suspect who had fled from the Ice House convenience store was located deceased near the railroad tracks, and is believed to have been struck by a moving freight train. The identity of the deceased suspect is currently being withheld pending notification of family members. An autopsy is pending.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
