HANNIBAL, MO. -- The Hannibal City Council gave initial approval Tuesday to proposals that would ban people from parking vehicles in their yards and keep commercial trucks off of residential streets.
According to the Hannibal Courier Post, a more controversial plan to ban commercial vehicles on residential property was tabled.
Councilmen also heard a final reading to get rid of the city code's impeachment language for the fire department's top administrator. The proposal stems from the controversy surrounding former Fire Chief Tim Carter. You'll recall he was suspended for unspecified reasons last year and with impeachment charges filed against him in February 2010. Fire board members say the change makes the fire chief subject to the same type of dismissal procedures as other city employees.
The council also: approved a contract extension for City Manager Jeff LaGarce and gave first readings to ordinances updating city code on harassment and cyberbullying.
They also heard a proposed agreement to pay for a new access road and parking lot at the airport.
