QUINCY, ILL. -- The new year is only a few days away, but that doesn't mean it's too late to give yourself a little extra help come tax season.
We spoke with H & R Block District Manager Linda Cannon.
We asked her if there was anything people could do before 2011 rolls in to help them out on their tax returns.
"The first thing they want to do is consider paying all of their real estate or property taxes by the 31st of December. They can still make charitable contributions in order to increase their tax return for 2010," said Cannon.
Cannon also says once the new year hits, everyone needs to make a resolution that can help them for many tax seasons to come.
"First thing they need to is really get a hold of the record keeping. It really is critical to keep good records. That's another good budgeting aspect too, we all kind of wonder where all of our money goes, if you maintain your records certainly that gives you the opportunity," said Cannon.
Cannon says it's even more important for people who have to keep track of their mileage for work to keep good records.
She says if you just estimate your miles you could be shorting yourself come tax season.
