KIRKSVILLE, MO (AP) -- Business law students at Missouri's Truman State University are writing their own textbook.

The Kirksville school says in a news release that professor Bryce Jones was unhappy with the cost and quality of commercial textbooks.

That's why he assigns students to write all or part of a textbook chapter for his "Legal Environment of Business" course.

The fourth edition is due out in the upcoming semester.

Already, about 380 pages have been written.

Jones says the previous textbook read as though it were written by lawyers for lawyers.

He says his students are bright and know their audience better.

The book includes elements like hyperlinks and is free if accessed online.

If printed, it costs about $25.

The previous textbook costs up to $180.
