Champagne most popular, but not the only hot item

While Christmas shopping season is the busiest time of the year for retailers and many other stores, New Year's Eve Day is the busy time for alcohol sales.

Store Manager of HyVee Wine and Spirits in Quincy Tom Holck says December 31st will be one of the busiest days the store will have all season.

He says champagne is obviously the top seller this time of the year, but it's not the only thing flying off these shelves.

"Also we'll sell all kinds of wines, all kinds of mixers for all the different party drinks that people can come up with. A lot of people have a very special dinner and will have a very special wine that they'll pick out just for this evening.," said Holck.

We stopped in at HyVee Wine and Spirits shortly before 10:00AM Friday morning and things weren't too busy, but Manager Tom Holck says by 11:00AM he was expected a line to stretch all the way to the back of the building and expected it to stay that way all day and into the evening.
