BURLINGTON, IOWA (AP) -- Iowa officials say a work-release inmate didn't return from a shopping trip and has been listed as escaped from a facility in Burlington.

A news release from the Corrections Department says 25-year-old Alan Sturm escaped on Monday.

He had been given a shopping furlough from the Burlington Work Release Facility but didn't return.

The department says Sturm was transferred to the facility on Dec. 10.

He was convicted of assaulting an officer, burglary and other offenses in southeast Iowa's Des Moines County.

Sturm began his sentence of 10 years and nine months in October 2006.
