The Fort Madison family who told us they owed their life to a guardian angel now can thank him in person.

Until now the Slutts family didn't know the identity of the man who banged on the door fo their home after wiring in their attic caught fire.

According to the Fort Madison Daily Democrat, the guardian angel has been identified as Adam Helmick.

The family called Helmick to thank him for saving the lives of all five members.

UPDATE: January 18 at 3:20 p.m.

A Ft. Madison family says the only reason they are alive today is because a passing angel banged on their door and told them their house was on fire.

Once the family was safely out of the burning home, the mystery man disappeared as quickly as he appeared.

Mom, dad and three children, ages 13, 14 and 16, were on hand Tuesday assessing the fire damage.

They want to thank their neighbors and community for coming to their aid.
