Houses torn down on W. Jackson St. to become green space
MACOMB, ILL. -- Macomb is getting closer to adding some open space to its west side.
Several dilapidated houses on West Jackson Street are in the process of being torn down by the city.
Two more are slated to be torn down once the asbestos is removed.
The plan is to turn the lots into open-green space.
There would be no recreational or playground equipment on it, just open-green space with a few places to sit.
"We just amended our zoning to officially allow for what we are calling open space or pocket open space. So this will be in that category. We'll be working with the local Rotary Club for possible design of the area for possible open space use," said Community Development Coordinator Ed Basch.
Community Development Coordinator Ed Basch says the open space areas go right along with the city's comprehensive plan that was created in 2007 and the TIF district on the west side.
