QUINCY, ILL. -- Wednesday night was the first night of heightened security ordered by the Quincy school administration in response to recent shootings around the nation.
Those entering Baldwin School were required to go through a metal detector including Board President Melvin "Bud" Niekamp and the rest of the board.
The board granted a temporary construction easment to the city of Quincy, and conveyed property to the city, both actions a preliminary to aligning 33rd street and the high school parking lot entrance.
That work will probably not take place until 2012.
