HULL, ILLINOIS -- As soon as lawyers figure out which of two bids the Western CUSD #12 School Board will accept, Lisa Smith will be the new owner of the former Hull Elementary School building.

Smith submitted two bids to the board for the building, essentially out-bidding herself.

The first bid was for $555, and the second bid was for $555 over the highest submitted bid.

The school board accepted the highest bid, but has deferred to its lawyer to figure out the details for the closing of the property due to take place in 30 days.

Smith owns Mama Duck's Day Care and is interested in providing teen programs as well.

Western School Board president David Motely says, "We accepted the highest bid but the closing will be contingent upon the legality of the second bid".

Motley told KHQA News he was happy to see a new owner take interest in the Hull Elementary School building.

"This has been needed for a long time," said Smith. She told KHQA's Nora Baldner that she's excited about the possibilittes and would like to see not only a day care in the building but teen programs, summer programs and programs to engage the whole community. "I basically grew up in the building, my dad was the school custodian for many years. I am excited about getting started."

The building was left vacant after the district reorganized.

Smith expects to close on the property within the next 30 days and KHQA looks forward to hearing more about future plans.
