HAMILTON, IOWA -- The state of Illinois is four months behind on disbursements of tax revenues to Hamilton, amounting to more than $70,000.

Mayor Steve Woodruff is hoping to cut between $20,000 and $40,000 from the budget.

He says the city has money in its savings, but wants to cut back spending a little bit in case of an emergency.

Woodruff has told all department heads that they must get his approval before making purchases more than $250.

"I think what the general public will see is right now we're going to be, I wouldn't say short-staffed, but we're going to look at our overtime expenditures on call out instances, take a priority list of what is important and what's not. The quality of our streets, water and the safety of our town will be the same," says Woodruff.

Mayor Steve Woodruff says last year Hamilton cut $300,000 out of its budget.
