QUINCY, ILL. -- The bald eagle is the symbol of America, and this time of year you can see that symbol along the Mississippi River.
Several people turned out just south of the Quincy Lock and Dam to take a gander at several bald eagles soaring in the sky.
Army Corps of Engineer Park Rangers were on hand helping people spot the birds and answering any questions.
As it turned out, today's weather was nearly perfect for some bald eagle watching.
"Locks and Dams, anytime there's a Lock and Dam, there's a great chance of seeing eagles because the lack of ice buildup that's below them. Open water means there are probably eagles that are going to be around," says Brent Groesh.
Quincy Bald Eagle days was just today, but the U.S. Army Corps. Of Engineers Park Ranger says this time of year, you can see eagles quite a bit.
The only downside to missing Saturday, you won't have a Park Ranger on hand to answer questions.
