QUINCY, ILL. -- As the heavy snow approaches the area, there is something that local residents can do to help their local fire department.

If you have a fire hydrant in front of or near your house, take a few minutes and clear the snow from the area in and around the hydrant.

That way, if there is a fire and firefighters need to hook hoses to hydrant, precious time won't be lost in trying to dig out or find an actual hydrant.
