PENNSYLVANIA (AP) -- Can you believe that on a day like today, some of us might be holding our breath for a groundhog to tell us we'll have an early spring?

It's not too much to ask!

The pressure was on Punxsutawney Phil this year and we now understand the he came through for us. He did not see his shadow which means that we should see an early spring!

Thousands of people were gathered on a hill in Pennsylvania this morning to see whether the little critter would see its shadow, predicting six more weeks of wintry weather, or wouldn't see it, meaning an early spring.

Phil came out at 7:25 a.m. ET Wednesday morning.

Groundhog Day, Punxsutawney Phil's official website, said Phil has been doing his thing since 1887.

He has seen his shadow 99 times out of 114, reported The Christian Science Monitor.
