KEOKUK, IOWA -- Keokuk residents still are finding it hard to drive around.
Main Street is clear for the most part, but other side streets still have inches of snow on them
The city did not declare a snow emergency.
If a snow emergency had been called, cars would have had to move to the side of the street that has even number addresses. They've been called in the past, but Keokuk Mayor Tom Marion says it was suggested that he didn't this time around.
"I had some advice not to. We had to tow 107 cars and then the question on that becomes where do you put those? So, it's an expense and cost to the city," said Keokuk Mayor Tom Marion.
This car has been in the same spot since before the storm. It took three people to shovel the car out. Marion has been talking with the Federal Emergency Management Agency about getting reimbursement for snow removal. He also is working on getting private haulers to remove left-over snow.
"We're trying to catch up with what we haven't been able to do. It's 120 miles of streets here in Keokuk. We have 5 trucks - the big trucks. So, it's just, we're fighting a tough battle, but we're just trying to do the best we can," said Marion.
The removed snow is taken to Hubinger Landing on the Mississippi River. Even though not all the streets are fully plowed, Marion says people just need to have one thing.
"You have to have some patience now. If you're on a one lane, you're going to have to wait sometimes and let someone else go by. We don't want people to get frustrated, although, this is a frustrating situation. But hopefully they can work with everybody else. You know, you get some neighbors who work together, I know some people have helped clear full blocks," said Marion.
