QUINCY, ILL. -- High school girls in Quincy got the chance to learn about unconventional careers.

John Wood Community College held Women in Technology day.

Girls learned about welding, truck driving, and construction -- jobs typically held by men.

They took part in hands on activities and learned some important lessons.

"If you're motivated to do anything, you can pretty much do anything that you want. So, it's just important to know that if welding, or if you want to be a truck driver and you're a woman, then you can do that if you're motivated and have the perseverance to do it," QHS student Jasmine Webb.

Other careers they learned about were computer-aided design and electrical technology.
