QUINCY, ILL. -- Another issue facing cities with all of this snow is buried fire hydrants.

All the snow that was plowed off the streets covered many of the hydrants.

Quincy Fire Chief Joe Henning says he had crews out this weekend looking for problems.

He says there's a map of every fire hydrant in the city on the fire trucks.

This weekend, crews scoured the city making sure they could at least see the tops of all fire hydrants.

If not, they dug them out.

"Our crews have confirmed they could get to the hydrants. If there's anything that could cause a problem, they addressed it," says Fire Chief Joe Henning.

We also asked Chief Henning about pipes to fire hydrants freezing.

He says the hydrants aren't full of water, they attach to the water main underground and they are opened and closed with a valve.

So the chances of them freezing are slim.
