MACOMB, ILL. -- During last week's winter storm the Illinois State Police out of Macomb had trouble getting around.

The department ended up getting help from the Illinois National Guard and the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Thursday afternoon, the State Police thanked members of the National Guard and IDOT for their help.

Certificates of Appreciation were given out because patrol cars weren't able to respond to accidents, so troopers tagged along with IDOT snow plows and in National Guard humvees.

Together, they handled 131 weather related incidents, checked on 87 stranded vehicles, and helped 53 drivers.

"Worst case scenario is life safety. That is the point we got to. This is a life safety requirements. We had to do things we haven't done before in order to make sure no one is stranded and no one is exposed to these conditions," says Capt. Robert Elliott.

The last time these three agencies worked together was for the Flood of 2008.
