HANNIBAL, MO. -- UPDATED: FEBRUARY 16 AT 4P.M.
A tough economy has taken its toll on the United Way of the Mark Twain area.
The goal was $550 thousand but last year's campaign came up about $5 thousand short.
But campaign leaders are optimistic.
Money is still coming in and everyone is confident the community will pitch in the rest to keep local agencies running.
But despite barely missing the goal, organizers still consider the year a success. The United Way teamed with the Unmet Needs committee to helps those affected by flash flooding last year. That occurred in the Bear Creek Bottoms last July.
Many people there were thankful for the water heaters provided by the local unmet needs committee.
