BARRY, ILL. -- The Western School District was scheduled to meet its new superintendent this afternoon.

Carol Frericks will take over for Rodger Hannel, who is retiring.

Her contract is expected to be officially approved at tonight's board of education meeting.

Frericks worked in the Quincy school district for many years.

She had served as a principal at Irving School, then as literacy coordinator until her position was eliminated in the spring of 2009 because of budget cuts.

She then became the literacy coordinator for the McLean County Unit 5 School District in Normal, Illinois.

Hannel has served as superintendent for the Western and Payson school districts simultaneously.

Donna Veile will become the new superintendent of Payson schools.
