QUINCY, ILL. -- Many Blessing physicians offered their services free of charge Saturday. More than 500 people from the area attended the hospital's Wellness Day at the Oakley Lindsay Center.
Visitors had the chance to meet with about thirty physicians offering free screenings in areas including cardiology, respiratory and dermatology. For most, it was a chance to get to the doctor without worrying about the costs.
Barbara Douglas and her husband have attended Blessing's Wellness Day for the last three years.
"I had problems with my feet so I wanted to stop and talk to somebody about it. I found out that my problem has nothing to do with PAD, but probably neuropathy," said Douglas.
"Today, they came for reading of EKG and Carotid ultrasounds, and just for general questions about their heart and health and how things are going," said Dr. Stilianos Efstratiadis, an interventional cardiologist at Blessing.
"The more the public can have confidence in the providers in the community, I think that's a benefit. Some people don't like to go doctors, so this may be their only contact with medical personnel throughout the year. So hopefully some of these concerns are addressed by coming to something like this," said Dr. Richard Saalborn, Blessing's Emergency Department Medical Director.
The health fair wasn't just for adults. Kids took to an obstacle course, learned to pack a healthy snack, and played games regarding their health.
