Roselyn Jensen left behind largest endowment scholarship to future John Wood students from Brown County.
MT. STERLING, ILL. -- John Wood Community College celebrated the donation of the largest endowment scholarship in the history of the school.
It's got a lot of zeros. And it's all from a local educator who wanted to make higher learning her legacy. John Wood officials announced this endowment, the new Florence and Roselyn Kay Jensen Memorial Scholarship today at Brown County High School.
These seniors, as well as past Brown County graduates are eligible for up to five thousand dollars in scholarship money to attend John Wood Community College.
Dr. Thomas Klincar, President of John Wood Community College said, "To have an endowment of this magnitude, it will help make college even more accessible for students here at Brown County."
The endowment was given to the School by Roselyn Jensen. She taught at the Grundy School in Morton, Ill. for 36 years and was well known for her years of charity work. She was active in her church and worked tirelessly to preserve her family's Jensen Woods Church Camp near Mt. Sterling. She and her mother Florence were both graduates of Brown County.
Jensen Relative Doug Tenhouse said, "Life was like a big field trip for her. She liked to meet people and she had a passion for youth."
This scholarship is a real help to Senior like Tyler Newell.
"This would help because college is expensive."
It's a big number...that will pay big dividends for the educational goals of students like these.
The scholarship deadline is March 11...with money available beginning this Fall.
