QUINCY, ILL. -- Knapheide is teaming up with General Motors to bring a gasoline alternative to some of its vehicles.
GM selected Knapheide to install liquefied petroleum gas tanks or LPGs.
They will take the place of regular gasoline tanks in full-size vans.
These vehicles will run on propane.
The vans will be produced at GM in Wentzville, Missouri.
Knapheide's Vice President of Engineering Chris Weiss says using propane instead of gasoline will reduce harmful emissions, and he sees it catching on.
"The infrastructure is growing in the US. It's very large in Europe. It's very large in other foreign countries. I see it as you're going to get propane or natural gas at a gas station, then you'll be able to see more and more vehicles out there," said VP of Engineering Chris Weiss.
Replacing the tanks usually takes about five to six hours.
