QUINCY, ILL. -- UPDATED: May 31 at 4:35 p.m.
Kevin Payne, with KHQA's newspartner WTAD Star Radio, reports that a former student teacher found guilty of aggravated criminal sexual abuse is going to prison for five years.
37-year-old Darrold Wayne Frisbie was convicted in February following a week-long trial. A jury declared him guilty of two sexual abuse charges and three drug charges.
Frisbie was sentenced to two five year terms on the aggravated sexual abuse charges, and two three year terms on the unlawful delivery of drugs and unlawful possession of meth charges. He also will serve 364 days for possession of drug paraphernalia.
All terms will be served concurrently. With good behavior, Frisbie could be out in 2-and-a-half years.
Once released Frisibie will have to spend two years on supervised release and register as a sex offender.
Frisbie's family expressed displeasure with the sentence, saying the judge gave state's attorney Jon Barnard "everything he wanted."
Defense attorney Rif Scholz had requested probation or a minimal prison sentence.
Barnard had asked for six years in the Department of Corrections.
Frisbie will also have to pay court costs but was not fined. Judge Mark Drummond said he trusted Frisbie's statement that he would diligently pursue new work opportunities when he got out of prison and did not want Frisbie to have a large fine "hanging over you."
