HANNIBAL, MO. -- UPDATED: March 1 at 6:10 p.m.
A 24-year-old Hannibal man was arrested for Assault in the second degree for apparently assaulting a 49-year-old neighbor.
It is believed this incident is connected to an early report of shots fired in which a female was arrested. The suspect in this assault was placed on a 24-hour hold at the Marion County Jail.

At 2:58 Tuesday afternoon, Officers of the Hannibal Police Department responded to calls of shots fired in the 2100 block of Spruce St.
When officers arrived on scene they determined that a 43-year-old Hannibal woman had apparently shot at subjects across the street from her residence.
The woman was taken into custody for Assault 1st degree and placed on a 24-hour hold at the Marion County Jail.
No injuries were reported from this incident, however, it remains under investigation and further information will be released at a later time.

Hannibal Courier-Post's journalist Danny Henley reported that neighbors and the suspect's fiance identified her as Monica Williams. Williams has run for city council in past elections, both times on the platform of restoring peace and order to her neighborhood.

Police say that this is an ongoing situation in the Hannibal neighborhood.
They believe it escalated enough Tuesday that gunfire was the result.
Apparently the situation was between two females.
One person is currently in police custody. Police say residents are safe.

KHQA has just learned that a gunshot was fired in the 2100 block of Spruce in Hannibal at approximately 3 p.m.
It is believed that a shot was fired from one house to another in that block, however, it is not clear yet what the situation entails.
The Hannibal Police Chief Lyndell Davis and all other available police officers have all been dispatched to the area.
Overheard on the scanner was a call for an evidence bag and camera.
