QUINCY, ILL. -- Living on the banks of the Mississippi, you need to be prepared for flooding this time of the year.

That's exactly what many people in the Tri-States are doing. Beth Barnes with State Farm Insurance in Quincy says with all the snow occuring up north, residents are worried for the big melt.

"I've done more flood quotes in the last two months than I have in the last two years combined," said Barnes.

For people still needing flood insurance, the best time is now.

"If you meet the requirements and you get the policy, it does normally take 30 days to go into effect. So you want to make sure the flood's not imminent and you're not waiting till the last second. You want to be proactive and prepared in that regard," said Barnes.

Barnes wants to remind people that homeowners insurance usually does not cover floods. Flooding is a separate policy.
