QUINCY, ILL. -- Increasing numbers of college students are spending their spring breaks helping others.
That's especially the case at Quincy University these days.
When spring break begins in about a week, many students here will head out to service learning trips across the country and right here in the Tri-States. Last spring break some students at QU worked on a service project at the New Start rescue mission.
In the last two years, students have performed service projects in 42 states and in countries, such as Haiti.
Students say there's good reasons for the uptick in giving.
Brian Silverstein, Outreach Coordinator said, "I hope that they get out of it a sense of community. Connecting not only with themselves but the people their going down with and the service and the people they're going down to benefit and I hope they have fun and do it again."
Student volunteer Christian Carter said, "It's really great to help out people who need it when they do."
Quincy University is focusing on service so much, it's offering Service Scholarships to students who do community service. Learn more here: http://www.quincy.edu/FinancialAid/scholarships.php
