RALLS COUNTY, MO. -- A New London teenager is in the hospital after losing control of her car off Highway 61 Sunday evening.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says Ashlyn Dietle, 17, was driving southbound toward Hannibal when her car crossed into the median and into the northbound lanes. The accident occurred about 2 miles north of New London just before 4 p.m. Traffic was stalled in the northbound lanes during which time emergency crews attended to Dietle.

"The tire was knocked off in the accident but that was not the cause of the accident itself," said State Trooper Andy Bryan. "We're not sure why it happened yet."

Emergency crews transported Dietle by Air Evac to Blessing Hospital. At last check, she remains in serious condition.
