Spring is coming on and those pesky dandelions will rear their ugly heads. But are they really so awful? Mom didn't think so.
We lost our mom, Judy Quinn, to uterine cancer almost eight years ago.
When Mom was diagnosed with cancer, she was in an incredible amount of pain. Those last couple weeks, morphine became the drug that could make the day bearable.
A nurse gave her a hefty dose and was wheeling her away for another test. Mom said, "These days, morphine ranks right up there with mashed potatoes and dandelions."
Thinking she must be on a morphine high, I said, "Mom, I get the mashed potatoes who doesn't love those? But what's so great about dandelions?"
Mom said, "Oh, dandelions are the best. When your child brings you a handful of dandelions, that's how you know you're loved."
Mom never got many bouquets of roses in her lifetime, but she earned many handfuls of dandelions. When your child presents you with your first dandelion this spring, know that you are loved.
