QUINCY, ILL. -- In today's economy, many families are having a tough time paying their bills. That includes property taxes.

The Adams County Clerk's office recently published a list of properties "sold for delinquent taxes." These are locations where property taxes haven't been paid within the last few years. These property owners now face losing their rights and title to their home and property.

If the owner doesn't pay up before August 9th, a tax buyer can take possession of the property.

"If you see a property in the paper you have an interest in, you'll want to come by the clerk's office and pay off the taxes that have not been paid, maybe more than one year. There may be fines and penalties attached to it. We will not take a personal check, it has to be a cashier's check or cash and the entire amount has to be paid at one time," said Georgia Volm, the Adams County Clerk.

Volm says once that's paid off, the tax buyer will no longer have rights to redeem that property and take possession of it.
