QUINCY, ILL. -- UPDATE March
Quincy's downtown area is growing again.
A new restaurant will open on Memorial Day weekend.
The restaurant is named Johnny Bang Bang's and it's taking the place of the Backwater's nightclub.
Four local businessmen bought the building this week and will renovate over the next couple of months.
There will be a full kitchen and it will be rock and roll themed with concerts on Friday and Saturday nights.
Co-owner Rich Marcolla says, "We actually did not renew our nightclub license because a nightclub license goes until 3:00 am. We wanted to get out of that business. The partners prefer to have it as a restaurant and concert venue. It will mix really well and everyone will feel comfortable coming down."
The restaurant's first concert is a week from this Sunday, even though the business isn't officially open.
Bret Michaels' people called and said the rock singer would be in the area, could they do a concert.
The new owners couldn't pass up the offer, so they agreed to hold the concert on April third.
By the way, we asked what the name Johnny Bang Bang meant, and Rich Marcolla says it has a special meaning, and he couldn't tell me now, but the reason behind the name will be revealed later.
