PITTSFIELD, ILL. -- A $2 million health complex is expected to open next year in Pittsfield, Ill.
The Health and Wellness Foundation of Pike County will break ground July 2011 on a multi-level facility designed to house the Pike County Health Department, a dental clinic, the HWFPc office and other service offices.
"The medical mall concept has become very popular in the U.S. for some very good reasons. It does enable people to come to one location and get a variety of health services that they need. We are speaking with other health services and entities within the county to be part of this complex," said Patricia McIntire, the executive director of HWFPC.
The building will occupy the site of the former Brown Shoe factory. The Foundation will build to suit offices for the Health Department currently located at 113 E. Jefferson.
"This building used to be a grocery store. It moved here in the early 80's and built out the facility to meet their needs. And obviously, it's served them well, but they now have over $200,000 in repairs including roof repair they need to be thinking about , if they were to stay in this facility," said McIntire.
The deed to that property will be transfered to the Foundation.
The Health and Wellness Foundation is underwriting the costs for entire project. The new center will be built without using any taxpayer dollars.
