QUINCY, ILL. -- You can expect to pay a little more if you plan to attend John Wood Community College this fall. The JWCC Board of Trustees voted to increase tuition by $3 per credit hour for the 2011-2012 academic year. The move will increase the cost per credit hour to $120 for in-district students and $230 for out-of-district students.
“Even with the tuition increase, John Wood remains a bargain for students,” Tom Klincar, JWCC president said. “John Wood provides quality courses that transfer and we lead the area in workforce training, yet our tuition is one third to one fifth of the cost of four-year area colleges and technical schools.”
Trustees voted to approve a 2% retroactive pay increase for current staff for the 2010-2011. The Board’s past practice has been to provide staff the same pay increases as called for in the faculty collective bargaining agreement. The current faculty contract provides for incremental pay increases based upon state payments received in excess of JWCC’s budgeted figures. Due to the state’s financial crisis, the College budgeted for $1.5 million in revenue from the state, or half of the year’s state-appropriated funds.
To date, John Wood has received more than $1,600,000, which triggered the increase.
