CHICAGO, ILL. -- A former Western Illinois University student was the recipient of the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Local Reporting.
Mark Konkol and two others from the Chicago Sun-Times, won the prize for their work on violence in Chicago Neighborhoods, probing the lives of victims, criminals and detectives as a widespread code of silence impedes solutions. You can read their reports here.
Konkol says, "This is totally unexpected, and it's a great thing. I'm just glad that I work with such great people, and it's about time the Sun-Times got some recognition for the work we do every day."
Mark Konkol was a student and athlete at Culver Stockton College from 1991-1993. He then transfered to WIU and graduated in 1995 with a Communications degree.
