IOWA CITY, IOWA (AP) -- A member of the Iowa Board of Regents says state universities should not be allowed to name colleges after corporations or businesses, except in special cases.
David Miles says he will propose that rule Wednesday when the regents meet in Iowa City.
The issue surfaced earlier 2007 when the University of Iowa's College of Public Health considered a $15 million gift from the Wellmark Foundation to name the college for Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
Miles says normally, a college shouldn't be named after a corporation. But if there is a compelling reason, it would be considered on a case-by-case basis.
At Wednesday's meeting, the regents are also scheduled to take up a proposal to arm campus police.
